Fourteen year old Ratu Meli Tokatokavanua of Ratu Asaeli Rokovucago Memorial School in Sote Village, Tailevu is the first student to be given a scholarship, from the Global Links Learning Abroad.

Global Links Learning Abroad is a non-profitable organization based in the United States and they have been visiting the school since 2010.

Ratu Meli said this is a big relief to his parents as they do not have to buy his school uniforms, books not exceeding $600 which is part of the scholarship.

More than 100 students of the school received educational assistance like library books and tablets.

Speaking at the prize-giving yesterday, Director of the Global Links, Sheila Houston said the main assistance was the scholarship awarded to year 8 students, who will attend high school next year.

The scholarship will include the boarding fees, books and uniforms each year for the next four years and the amount not exceeding $600 per year.

Houston said there is a scholarship evaluation criteria to be followed by the year 8 students in order to qualify which is based on merit and also Global Links will look into the financial background of the students.
