Cabela's Lays Off 4 Percent Of Its Corporate Staff

SIDNEY, Neb. (AP) — Outdoor gear retailer Cabela's has laid off nearly 70 corporate employees, but the Nebraska company remains committed to its growth plans.

Cabela's said the layoffs announced Thursday represent about 4 percent of its corporate workforce.

The layoffs were made in several different departments within the company. Most of the job cuts were made at Cabela's headquarters in Sidney, Nebraska, but some cuts were made in Lincoln, Nebraska and Denver.

The layoffs included Sidney's mayor and a former Cabela's spokesman who serves on the city council.

Cabela's Executive Vice President Doug Means says the company still plans to open between nine and 11 new retail stores every year.

And Cabela's still plans to move into a 160,000-square-foot expansion to its headquarters in January. The company employs more than 2,000 in Sidney.
