Martha Stewart near deal to sell company to Sequential Brands

Martha Stewart’s publishing and licensing empire is nearing a deal to be acquired by Sequential Brands Group, sources told The Post.

Under the deal, the 73-year-old domestic diva will retain her active role in the brand, whose businesses include magazines as well as housewares sold at Macy’s.

The price tag on the deal couldn’t immediately be learned, but one insider said negotiations were in the final stages and a deal was “imminent.”

Sources cautioned, however, that talks were fluid and a deal could still fall apart.

Shares of Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia surged almost 27 percent Thursday on speculation of a buyout, closing at $6.46 and giving the company a market capitalization of $370 million.

A spokeswoman for Martha Stewart declined to comment. Sequential Brands, whose brands include Jessica Simpson and Ellen Tracy, didn’t respond to requests for comment.
