ALCOA (WATE) – An Alcoa clothing company announced Wednesday it is donating more than $60,000 to the Officer Kenny Moats Memorial Fund raised from T-shirt sales in Moats’ memory.

GoTeez Clothing Company has sold more than 4,000 shirts since last Friday. The full purchase price went to the donation.

“We were tremendously saddened by the events of last Thursday night and looked for a way we could help,” said Brian Johnston, President of GoTeez. “The community has been overwhelmingly supportive of Officer Moats family through the purchase of these shirts and many other great endeavors around the area.  We wanted to use what we were best at to show our backing for Officer Moats’ family and all of our local law enforcement agencies”Related story: Maryville says final goodbye to Officer Kenny Moats

GoTeez says there are still shirts available. They can be purchased at the store at 2081 Lois Lane in Alcoa.

The Village Tinker also raising tens of thousands of dollars

Joanna Tinker works at her family’s business, The Village Tinker, in Maryville. She said people have been ordering her store’s t-shirts since last week. The business has been non-stop.

“Lines out the door, online sales exploding, people been coming in until 9:30 at night to get shirts,” said Tinker.

The shirts at her store cost $15. A portion of that, $10, goes to the Kenny Moats Memorial Fund. As of Wednesday, The Village Tinker has raised close to $80,000 for the fund.

“Really turn it into a story of triumph because this community has really wanted to get behind out law enforcement,” said Tinker.

Moats was shot and killed in the line of duty last Thursday. He was laid to rest on Wednesday. Anyone still interested in donating to the fund can give at any Citizens Bank of Blount County branch through the end of September.

The Roane County Sheriff’s Office is holding a roadblock Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon at the Midtown intersection of Highway 70 and Pine Ridge Road to collect money for the fund. Ten percent of sales at Chili’s in Alcoa on September 6 goes to the fund.
