After 15 years at 48th and Fremont, A Children's Place bookstore has a new home.

The business, which touts itself as "Portland's oldest independent children's bookstore," is now at 1423 N.E. Fremont St., in a shopping plaza anchored by Whole Foods Market. It sits between Backyard Bird Shop and Irvington Veterinary Clinic behind the supermarket.

Owner Pam Erlandson said Friday that while the store has a smaller footprint, "everything will be the same." At 10:30 a.m., local band Micah & Me was playing its usual weekly gig, with a song list that included "The Wheels on the Bus."

"I have wonderful dedicated customers ... and we're excited to meet new people," she said.
