Wednesday Sector Leaders: Financial, Services

In afternoon trading on Wednesday, Financial stocks are the best performing sector, higher by 0.6%. Within that group, U.S. Bancorp (NYSE: USB) and Bank of America Corp. (NYSE: BAC) are two large stocks leading the way, showing a gain of 4.2% and 3.9%, respectively. Among financial ETFs, one ETF following the sector is the Financial Select Sector SPDR ETF (AMEX: XLF), which is up 1.0% on the day, and up 2.88% year-to-date. U.S. Bancorp , meanwhile, is up 2.85% year-to-date, and Bank of America Corp. is up 0.06% year-to-date. Combined, USB and BAC make up approximately 8.5% of the underlying holdings of XLF.

The next best performing sector is the Services sector, up 0.2%. Among large Services stocks, Macy's, Inc. (NYSE: M) and Tegna Inc (NYSE: TGNA) are the most notable, showing a gain of 8.7% and 1.9%, respectively. One ETF closely tracking Services stocks is the iShares U.S. Consumer Services ETF (IYC), which is up 0.2% in midday trading, and up 8.53% on a year-to-date basis. Macy's, Inc., meanwhile, is up 11.29% year-to-date, and Tegna Inc is up 3.70% year-to-date. Combined, M and TGNA make up approximately 0.9% of the underlying holdings of IYC.
