Travelers may have noticed a color change at gas stations around town Monday, as the familiar green storefronts of Hess gas stations were painted red and given a new name.

All local Hess retail locations are now Speedway stores, the result of a 2014 acquisition by Speedway LLC.

Speedway LLC., a subsidiary of Marathon Petroleum Corporation, acquired Hess Retail Holdings LLC. as part of a $2.87 billion deal in May 2014, according to a press release. All Hess stations were scheduled to be rebranded over a span of three years.

Locally, Hess Express stores were found on Main Street in Endicott, Harry L Drive in Johnson City, the Vestal Parkway and Conklin and Glenwood avenues in Binghamton. All are now listed as Speedway retail locations on the company's website.

Hess is the largest operator of convenience stores along the East Coast and the fifth largest in the United States by number of company-operated sites with 1,256 stores located in 16 states, according to the release.

Speedway LLC is headquarted in Enon, Oh. and is the nation's fourth largest company-owned and -operated convenience store chain, with over 1,400 stores.
