While IFA is in full swing and the announcements are coming in thick and thin, this week also brought with it some strange news. The news was that Google had rather surprisingly and unexpectedly changed their company logo. This was immediately followed by the news throughout the day that the various Google services, features and apps were all seeing their animations updated to be more in line with the new logo. In fact, by the end of the day, the Google app had been updated and was available to download and came with a complete branding overhaul.

Well, it is now emerging that they may night be the only ones who are changing their logo this week. Over the course of today and in the background to IFA, new images started popping up on Twitter showing what seems to be a Verizon logo change. Now, it is nothing too drastic and as you can see from the image, is just more of a refinement of the logo. The red tick has moved to the end of the name and adopted a more tick-like look, while the red ‘z’ had become black and more fitting with the rest of the name. That said, at the time it was unclear if this was authentic or not as the images were emerging quietly and without any sort of formal announcement from Verizon.

Well, after those initial images, it now seems as those Verizon are confirming that they are indeed changing their logo to the logo you can see above. Verizon has sent out a blog post on the matter detailing the logo change and the explaining that this is to better fit their company profile of today. According to Verizon, “After 15 years, the new visual identity marks the beginning of the next chapter to distinguish Verizon in the minds of consumers and signals our revitalized purpose of delivering the promise of the digital world — simply, reliably and in a way that consumers want.” In addition to the actual explanation, Verizon also advise that the today they are announcing the new logo to their employees and tomorrow a more official and public announcing will occur at their offices in New Jersey.
