New rules may be implemented for upcoming NASCAR races from here on out as team owners and the organization itself had been under talks to limiting the number of pit crew members allowed to go over the wall from six to five. Furthermore, updates for the upcoming second round of Chase for NASCAR Sprint Cup this year were revealed.
NASCAR Pit Stop Limitations
NASCAR wish to uphold a cost-cutting initiative for further races starting with limiting the number of pit crew members to go over the wall from six to five starting 2017. As reported by Motor Sport, talks revolve around eliminating one tire carrier per team as opposed to the traditional two tire carriers implemented way back in the 90s.
The said proposal to limit crew members was primarily to uphold the cost-cutting strategy for NASCAR mid-level operations. Furthermore, the said measure was also raised in the hopes of eliminating additional bodies on the pit road which could make the race more challenging for most.
During 2011, teams were allowed six to seven pit stop members over the wall when catch-can position was removed. Teams then utilized the front and rear combination of tire carrier and changer along with a jack man and another fuel man. During the Xfinity Series, teams were forced to hire another pit stop team member because it took longer for them to refuel the cars.
With the current proposal at hand, in order for teams to cope up whenever the said rule would be applied, they would need to have a taller carrier man with longer arms to hasten things up at the right side while the jack man would index the left side tires.
At present, no confirmation had been announced as to whether this rule would apply by the 2017 season.
In other news, NASCAR reported that the Citizen Solder 400 at Dover International Speedway will start its elimination of the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup. From 16 drivers, the said round would only pick 12 racers to continue on to the next round.
Forecasted winners were lodged at Brad Keselowski, Kyle Busche, Matt Kenseth, Joey Logano, Denny Hamlin, Jimmie Johnson, Chase Elliot, Carl Edwards, Kurt Busch, Kyle Larson, Jamie McMurray, Austin Dillon, Tony Stewart, and Chris Buescher.
