Athens police searching for AT&T store robber

The Athens Police Department is requesting the public's help in finding a robbery suspect.

Athens Police Chief Floyd Johnson reports that the AT&T store on South Jefferson Street was robbed at about 6 p.m. Thursday. Officers were told a light-skinned Hispanic male with a handgun approached an employee outside the building and told the employee to go inside. Once inside, the robber demanded money. No one was injured.

Athens police officers and tracking dogs from the Limestone Correctional Facility searched the area but were unable to locate the suspect.

The suspect was described being 5 feet 8 inches or 5 feet 9 inches and 170 to 180 pounds. He was wearing a red- and white-striped shirt and khaki pants. He was last seen running west toward South Houston Street.
