The new DSW opens Oct. 6 in The Landing at Tradition.

UPDATE : DSW opened a few days later than scheduled because of Hurricane Matthew.

PORT ST. LUCIE — The Landing at Tradition is losing another anchor store and gaining a new one.

Months after the plaza's Sports Authority was shuttered, OfficeMax will close Nov. 12, company spokeswoman Julianne Embry confirmed in an email.

Discounts at the office supplies store ranged from 5 to 30 percent off Wednesday. Except for store rewards, coupons cannot be used on purchases and the store will no longer match competitors' prices.

There is an OfficeMax in Jensen Beach, an Office Depot in Stuart and an Office Depot in Vero Beach. OfficeMax and Office Depot are the same company.

It's unknown what will replace the OfficeMax at 10512 S.W. Village Parkway.

Spirit Halloween is temporarily filling the former Sports Authority space but the seasonal store, which sells Halloween costumes and decorations, won't be open for long.

The OfficeMax in Tradition will close Nov. 12.

One bright spot for the shopping center is the Treasure Coast's first DSW Designer Shoe Warehouse is opening Oct. 6.

The shoe store is at 10902 S.W. Village Parkway in the 17,500-square-foot building where Catherine's clothing store and five other small stores were located. DSW will be across the parking lot from Old Navy.

According to a DSW news release, the new store “will be stocked with name-brand and designer shoes and accessories at an extraordinary value, arranged in a convenient, self-service type experience. The store will have over 22,000 pairs of men's, women's and kid's shoes.”

Other stores in The Landing at Tradition plaza include Target, Ulta, Babies R Us, Michaels, TJ Maxx, Bed Bath & Beyond and PetSmart.

Tips for shopping liquidation sales

Here’s how to make sure you’re getting the best deal at liquidation sales:

  • Be prepared: Prices at liquidation sales are not always the lowest you can find, especially at the beginning.
  • Compare prices: Do a Google search or use a price comparison website or a smartphone app like ShopSavvy, which is available for Apple and Android.
  • Check the product thoroughly: Open the box, look for damage and make sure all parts, accessories, instructions, warranty information, and other items that should be included.
  • Use a credit card: If you experience any problems, this will give you an opportunity to contest the charge.
  • Warranties: Check warranty details and find out where repairs can be made.
  • Returns: Usually all sales are final with liquidation sales but OfficeMax store employees told me Wednesday that items could be returned at other local OfficeMax or Office Depot stores. This could change.
