Southwestern Energy to lay off 80 in Arkansas

Southwestern Energy Co., the leading operator in the Fayetteville Shale, is laying off 80 employees in the state, the company said on Thursday.

“A reduction in operations and shifting capital budgets across Southwestern Energy related to commodity prices, unavoidably led to a lower number of employees being required in certain areas,” Southwestern said in an emailed statement.

The layoffs are occurring at the company’s Arkansas offices in Damacus, Conway, Judsonia and Cleveland, said spokesman Christina Fowler.

Employees were told about the layoffs, which started Thursday, in a recent conference call with Southwestern’s Chief Executive Officer Steve Mueller, Fowler said.
