Tenaris has launched its longest-running education-based community program in Midland, Texas - the Merit Awards. The program recognizes high school students for their academic performance and engagement.

Tenaris, in partnership with the Midland Independent School District, marked the first annual Merit Awards on May 10 by presenting five Midland High School seniors with scholarships in the amount of $2,500 each.

'It is a pleasure to work with a company that is willing to invest in our students and who values education as we do,' said Dr. Leslie Sparacello, Midland High School Principal. ' We are very proud of our students at MHS and their accomplishments and we are most grateful to partner with Tenaris in investing in their future.'

The awards are granted based on a series of critieria, including meeting GPA requirements, enrolling in a four-year college and pursuing a major in fields related to Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).

'We have a longstanding commitment to education, and we are proud to offer our support to students whom not only excel academically, but in the community,' said Luca Zanotti, Tenaris President, USA. 'We hope to inspire these graduates with what we as a company consider a core value for growth and development, education.'

Tenaris's Merit Awards were first launched in 1959. The company's focus on education and training, arts, culture and volunteerism spans decades and countries, promoting sustainable programs in the communities where it has operations. In 2017, Tenaris invested about $9.5 million USD in education and community programs.

Tenaris has had a presence in Midland since 2016 when it opened its service center to better support oil and gas customers in the Permian Basin. The service center offers Rig Direct® services such as technical consulting, pipe management and field support, and handles the storage, inspection, preparation and delivery of oil country tubular goods (OCTG), accessories, sucker rods and coiled tubing.
