Billy Sharp has confirmed that he has signed for Sheffield United from Leeds United and thanked Whites fans for their support during his time at Elland Road.

The striker linked up with Leeds last summer from Southampton, however struggled to command a regular first team spot as the Whites' chopping and changing of head coaches took its toll.

Following the arrival of Uwe Rosler as head coach this summer and the German bringing in Lee Erwin and Chris Wood to fight for spots in attack, Sharp has been allowed to move to Sheffield United.

He links up with a manager he has played under before in Nigel Adkins and has wasted little time in expressing his delight at the switch.

Sharp posted: "First I would like to say how happy I am to be back at Sheffield United. I will give 100 per cent for the shirt and hope to score lots of goals and help the team gain promotion.

"It's a pleasure to be back working with a manager who believes in me and of course it's fantastic to play for the club I've grown up supporting."

The striker was also keen to pay tribute to Leeds fans, who he feels have backed him throughout his time at Elland Road.

"It goes without saying a massive thank you to the Leeds fans who believed and supported me whenever I pulled the famous white shirt on.

"Sadly things haven't gone how I would of [sic] liked them to. I've always wanted to play for Leeds United and will have fond memories of my short time there.

"Good luck for the season and thank you."

Sharp will now put his mind to helping Sheffield United win promotion in the forthcoming campaign, while Adkins will be counting on the striker to fire in goals regularly for the Blades.
