Thousands Celebrate Opening of New Cabela’s Superstore

There must not be a lot of outdoor stores in Ottawa, Canada because when Cabela’s opened its new superstore there this week, thousands of people lined up to celebrate.

The opening day was filled with giveaways and competitions including an archery contest at the store’s archery range. The 70,000 square feet of retail space is more than just a sporting goods store. Similar to the mega Bass Pro Shop that opened last year in Memphis.

“The store is designed to surround customers in an immersive outdoor experience with wood construction, stonework, a large mountain replica, indoor archery range and dozens of museum-quality wildlife displays,” Cabela’s states in a press release. “It will also include a firearms counter, conference room, fudge shop, and Bargain Cave.”

The company estimates that the new box store will generate approximately 230 full time jobs to the local area. Cabela’s Ottawa joins 10 other Canadian Cabela’s stores.
