Kroger is sponsoring scholarships for people to attend the upcoming Create West Virginia Conference in Fayetteville.

“At Kroger, we are impressed with the progress Create West Virginia has demonstrated and are delighted that the conference will be held in Fayetteville near our Oak Hill store,” said Allison McGee, spokesperson for Kroger’s Mid-Atlantic Division.

“Our contribution will help ensure that some of West Virginia’s most creative and entrepreneurial people can attend the conference without cost being a barrier to participation,” added McGee. “These scholarships are used for outreach to educators, young people, artists, and community leaders.”

“We’re excited to have Kroger join the lineup of benevolent local sponsors in recognizing the urgency of the conversation in West Virginia,” said Brittany Means, conference director.

“At Create West Virginia, everyone is welcome to the table, but even at reduced rates, the cost of attending the conference is not affordable for some. By donating conference scholarships, Kroger is ensuring that any citizen who wants to join the conversation about the future of our state can have his or her voice heard.”

“Fayette County is grateful to have such supportive businesses as Kroger,” said Matt Wender of the county commission.

“Our community is a better place because of the corporate sponsorship of responsible companies such as Kroger.”

The mission of Create West Virginia “is to support the development of creative communities, companies and centers of learning that thrive in the global innovation economy,” according to the organization’s web site.

The conference will be held Sept. 24-26 and includes three days of hands-on workshops, adventure activities and presentations. “Fayetteville and Oak Hill will benefit from the statewide exposure,” said McGee. More than 300 people from across West Virginia are expected to attend the conference.
