A Stillwater woman is in critical condition after being struck while walking along U.S. 412, the Cimarron Turnpike, late Friday night.

The Payne County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call at 11:25 p.m. about the injury accident, Capt. Kevin Woodward said. The caller reported he was driving westbound on the turnpike at about 75 miles per hour when a woman stepped in front of his vehicle.

According to a report released by Oklahoma Highway Patrol Troop K, Amber Swarb, 30, of Stillwater was walking in the center median on the Stillwater leg of the turnpike, about three miles east of Stillwater when she stumbled into the roadway in front of a vehicle driven by Brandon Focht, 24, of Stillwater.

Focht told the investigating officer he swerved to the right to avoid hitting Swarb but struck her with the driver’s side mirror.

LifeNet ambulance, OHP and the Payne County Sheriff’s Office responded.

Swarb was transported to Stillwater Medical Center by LifeNet ambulance and later flown to OU Medical in Norman by Air Methods air ambulance.

She was listed in stable condition with internal and external injuries to her trunk at the time of transport.

OU Medical listed Swarb’s condition as critical Monday afternoon.

According to the report, weather was not a factor, Focht and his passengers were wearing seatbelts and none of the vehicle’s occupants were injured. The report states Swarb was intoxicated when she was struck.
