Infosys independent director Carol M Browner has resigned from the Bangalore-based IT major with immediate effect, the company said in a statement to the Bombay Stock Exchange on Tuesday.

Ms Browner, a former director of the White House Office of Energy and Climate Change Policy in the Obama administration from 2009 to 2011, resigned from Infosys due to personal reasons, the company added.

59-year-old Ms Browner was appointed on Infosys board in 2014 after another independent director Ann Fudge chose not to seek re-appointment on completion of her term.

Ms Browner was part of Infosys' nomination and remuneration committee during 2014-15, according to the company's annual report. Infosys' nomination and remuneration committee oversees the nomination process and the incentives and pay offered to its top level executives, including the chief executive and other directors.

With Ms Browner's resignation, the number of independent directors in Infosys has come down to five. Infosys has a total of eight members on its board.

As of 1.14 p.m., Infosys shares traded 1 per cent lower at Rs 1,042.85 as compared to a 0.1 per cent gain in the broader Sensex.
