BlackBerry Picks A Fight About Security With Apple

BlackBerry’s share value might be tumbling down in an endless spiral, but it still doesn’t change the fact that BlackBerry is the stalwart in mobile security and privacy. BlackBerry still has a lot of high-profile important clients, including U.S. President Barack Obama, and German Chancellor Angela Merkel, who still trust the Canadian mobile company to keep their data safe. And this confidence and an experience of over twenty years in this field is what keeps BlackBerry going, even when it is at the nadir of its trade.

BlackBerry had once laughed off the prospects of the iPhone back in 2008. Even now, when Apple is the king of the mobile industry, developing itself in leaps and bounds, BlackBerry doesn’t seem to be backing down from picking a fight with the very best in the industry. BlackBerry recently announced the BlackBerry PRIV, also popularly known as Venice. PRIV stands for privacy, and BlackBerry is touting the device to be as secure as previous BlackBerry devices while retaining the flexibility and convenience of using an Android device.

After a series of public appearances with the device, which also happens to sport a classic BlackBerry styled sliding QWERTY keypad, BlackBerry released a teaser on their website, taking a jab at Apple about their developments in the privacy and security measures of their smartphones. According to the message that was posted, BlackBerry sounds happy about the developments in security and privacy Apple made, bragging about their experience in the field, citing a twenty-year long tenure. They also made it clear that their new smartphone will feature BlackBerry’s trademark security, even though it won’t run BlackBerry’s custom OS. The BlackBerry PRIV will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 808, and will have 3 GB of RAM, with an 18 MP camera in the back, and a 5 MP front-facing camera. The PRIV’s slider mechanism is called SmartSlide, and the keyboard also doubles as a trackpad, which is a very useful feature while scrolling, and navigating through the device without having to take your hands off the keyboard. BlackBerry has promised to officially launch the new smartphone before the year ends. But as the trailers and the teasers suggest, the launch might be close.
