Law & Order: Wildfire from prescribed burn under control

Sexual predator moves to county

THE RECORD

Florida Forest Service personnel, with help from St. Johns County Fire Rescue, Rayonier and the Department of Environmental Protection continued "mop-up operations" Wednesday after a prescribed burn got out of hand the previous evening, the Forest Service said.

Forest Service crews were conducting the burn in the area of state forest known as the Warner Tract on Tuesday when the wind shifted and a "spot over" jumped about a quarter mile ahead of the burn area just before 4 p.m., Forest Service spokeswoman Julie Maddux said at the time.

A Wednesday evening email from Maddux said the fire had been completely contained, and crews were putting "extra emphasis on mitigating hot spots."

The Forest Service calculated about 265 acres were burned as a result of the fire - down from the previous estimate of 350 acres, Maddux said.

Sexual predator moves to county

The St. John's County Sheriff's Office has released information that a man judged to be a sexual predator has moved to the county.

Ronald Terry Jones "will be residing in the woods" in the 3500 block of North Ponce de Leon Boulevard, a Wednesday release from the Sheriff's Office said.

Jones, 62, was released from prison Monday after serving a sentence for sexual activity with a child in St. Johns County from 1994, according to the release.

He will be on supervised conditional release and must wear a GPS ankle bracelet until November 2022.

He is described in the release as a white male, 5 foot 3 inches tall, 140 pounds, with brown hair and blue eyes.
