HURLEY >> The Town Board is reviewing a proposal to convert 29 indoor and outdoor light fixtures at the Highway Department garage so they can use energy-efficient bulbs.
Central Hudson Gas & Electric Corp. would cover 52 percent of the expected $18,000 cost, according to Town Clerk Judy Mayhon. That’s up from an original pledge of 43 percent.
A Central Hudson report estimates the town will make up the expense of project in just over two years because of reduced energy costs.
“Lighting retrofits improve overall lighting quality and add value to your building while reducing your carbon footprint,” the report states. “In addition, these new technologies are designed to last for years with no maintenance.”
Central Hudson estimates the project will take about six weeks to complete. Included will be replacing incandescent fixtures with LED lamps that have dimming controls; updating the type of metal used in the fixtures; and providing improved lifts for making changes to the fixtures.
Hurley Supervisor Gary Bellows said the Town Board will vote next month on a contract with Lime Energy to make the upgrades.
