Michael Miller, legal adviser to junior middleweight contender James Kirkland (32-1, 28KOs), has no idea when his client will return to the ring. At this point, there is a good possibility that Kirkland will sit out until 2015.

Miller, and Kirkland's promoter Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson, were under the impression that a deal was reached for a November 8th bout against Gabe Rosado. The fight would open up the HBO broadcast from the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, where Bernard Hopkins and Sergey Kovalev would battle in the televised main event.

But the fight fell apart following a telephone conversation between Kirkland and Jackson. During that conversation, the rapper turned promoter disclosed the full amount of the license fee that HBO was spending on the fight. Kirkland, who likely misunderstood what Jackson was explaining, was under the impression that Jackson promised him the entire license fee.

"I thought we had a deal," Miller told BoxingScene.com. "Kirkland's story is, his version is, 50 told me I was going to get paid 'X' and that's what I want to get paid. 50's version is - the whole package from HBO is 'X' and we're going to divide it, Kirkland and I, per our contract so there is no miscommunication at all. That's the end result. There is no more money for the fight. 50 is not going to give up what he's entitled to, per his contract, and Kirkland wants more money. Kirkland wants the whole pie and 50 is not going to give him the whole pie."

While Golden Boy Promotions President Oscar De La Hoya mentioned Kirkland as a longshot candidate for Saul "Canelo" Alvarez's HBO return on December 6th, Miller says that fight won't happen. Based on Kirkland's financial requirements for such a fight, it would have to take place on pay-per-view and Canelo's next fight will carried on regular HBO, with Joshua Clottey as the likely opponent.

Kirkland, 30-years-old, has been inactive since last December's HBO televised TKO win over Glen Tapia. A number of offers have been presented to Kirkland in the last few months, but the boxer is very, very selective and rejected all of them.

"Kirkland isn't going to fight Canelo is December. That's never been an idea to begin with. The idea that we all had, is let Kirkland fight in November or December. In a perfect world he could fight on Canelo's undercard, because Kirkland owes HBO a fight. The idea was, let Kirkland fight in November or December on HBO and get a win. If he was going to fight, and it was an opener, it wouldn't be an easy fight. Canelo, from what I understand from Golden Boy, will be off pay-per-view for his next fight. It will be a premium TV fight. And the idea was, that Canelo and Kirkland was going to be a pay-per-view fight. Kirkland has been out since December. When he returns, it's going to be in an easier fight than Canelo."
