Washington Falls to Evansville 11-2

Washington, Pa - The Washington Wild Things fell to the Evansville Otters by a score of 11-2 Friday night at CONSOL Energy Park.

Evansville exploded with seven runs in the first inning and added one each in the second, fifth, seventh and ninth innings.

Try as they may, The Wild Things couldn't catch up. Washington's Jim Yezzo scored Matt Ford in the bottom of the first, and Sam Mende plated Andrew Heck, who had a stand up triple in the third inning. Heck also belted another ball to centerfield in the sixth inning for his second stand up triple of the evening but was left stranded.

In the eighth inning with two outs, Eddie Sorondo was stranded after he belted a ball to the fence for a double.

Washington used five pitchers during the contest including Steve Sarcone, who signed during the afternoon to replace Kyle Helisek who was placed on the disabled list. Sarcone toss three full innings, allowing one run on two hits while striking out four. Ernie Zaragoza took the loss for Washington.

Washington and Evansville meet for game two of the three-game set Saturday night when first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. The Wild Things will wear specialty jerseys for the game to draw attention to Domestic Violence. The jerseys will be auctioned throughout the game, with all proceeds benefiting Domestic Violence Services of Southwest Pennsylvania. In addition the first 1000 fans will receive a ball cap, courtesy of Precision Marshall and Amica Insurance. Tickets are available at the CONSOL Energy Park box office.
