(VELINO) Roma, 4 Feb - The University of Florence (UNIFI) and Anahuac del Sur University have signed a cooperation agreement in Mexico City on the conservation and restoration of cultural and archaeological heritage. Two other similar agreements between the University of Puebla, UNIFI and the National Research Council (CNR) are due to be signed soon. This is the upshot of the conference "Study, conservation and restoration of cultural and archaeological heritage: technologies and research infrastructure for Heritage Science". The event, which took place at the Italian Institute of Culture (IIC) of Mexico City, was organised by the Italian embassy in the Mexican capital. The second bilateral meeting between the two countries on this issue saw the participation of Italian Ambassador to Mexico, Alessandro Busacca, Rector of Anahuac del Sur University, Abraham Gonzalez Cardenas, and Maria Perla Colombini of the National Research Council, as well as many researchers from both countries. The purpose of the event, also held as part of the Year of Italy in Latin America, was to present Italian skills and excellence in the field of restoration and conservation through the country's most important representatives, and to allow networking with Mexican counterparts and/or the Mexican bodies responsible for the restoration and conservation of local artistic heritage. The European E-RIHS project was also outlined. This project is dedicated to research and technology infrastructure for the study, conservation and restoration of cultural (and natural) heritage. This research infrastructure, which will represent a unique opportunity to exchange knowledge and experiences between the participating countries, is designed to provide research centres, museums and universities with access to methodologies, advanced instruments and interdisciplinary know-how. vel
