Diebold launches new 5500 ATM series with biometric finger-vein reader

Diebold announced it has released its new 5500 series of ATMS, which is designed to help financial institutions deliver full availability, low total cost of ownership, and advanced security features and technologies.

Diebold says the 5500 series can help financial institutions address various business objectives, such as managing security risks, driving efficiencies and lower cost of ownership, and appease customers.

The patent-pending Diebold ActivEdge card reader, which curbs all forms of skimming, is a standard feature in the 5500 series.

Other available features include biometric finger-vein readers, security camera provisioning, encryption technology, and monitoring services.

The newly developed ActivDispense technology enhances the ATM’s uptime as well as optimizes its dispensing performance.

Additionally, ActivPower intelligent power management controls power to individual modules during servicing, ensuring that users will not have to turn off the entire unit.

It also cuts down energy consumption by up to 60 percent, reducing the total cost of ownership.

Finally, the 5500 series offers many new advanced security features, a modern design, a 15-inch high-definition touchscreen display, vibrant color collections, mobile-ready functionality, and an optional two-way concierge video service capabilities support consumers with anytime banking access.

“Financial institutions have been clear in the necessity to build efficiencies and lower costs while still delighting their customers with leading-edge, secure technologies and stellar service — even in challenging environments,” said Frank A. Natoli Jr., EVP and chief innovation officer at Diebold. “The 5500 series delivers on what financial institutions need and what consumers want. It’s a perfect example of how we’re realizing our vision to drive collaboration and purposeful innovation to get meaningful solutions to market quickly.”

Diebold unveiled the 5500 series this week at the ATM Industry Association Security Conference in London and has posted a video previewing its new 5500 ATM series.
