GAME RECAP: Redbirds Lose Series Finale to Iowa, 3-2

August 23, 2016 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1) - Memphis Redbirds News Release

Despite the Iowa Cubs going 0-for-9 at the plate with runners in scoring postion, they were able to take advantage of a throwing error committed in the eighth inning by Redbird's pitcher, Corey Littrell, to win the final game of the four-game series. The Redbirds have now lost six out of the last eight games they have played.

After going 0-for-5 in last night's game, Breyvic Valera was able to bounce back and have a good game at the plate. He went 2-for-2, reached base four times and had a run scored. Efren Navarro had the only two runs batted in for the Redbirds after hitting a single to right field that scored Matt Williams and Valera to give Memphis a 2-1 lead in the top of the fifth.

Arturo Reyes was unable to pick up his 10th win as a Redbird this season but did manage to only give up four hits and one earned run in 3.2 innings of work. Pedro Echemendia, Littrell and Miguel Socolovich combined to give up just one hit and one earned run in 4.0 innings. Littrell was credited with the loss despite giving up a hit or an earned run.

The Redbirds return to AutoZone Park tomorrow to play their final homestand of the season against the Nashville Sounds. The Redbirds' final regular-season home series (Aug. 24-28) features:
