BackBeat Pro – meet its next generation PRO+

By

Plantronics have released an updated version of its acclaimed BackBeat Pro – the Pro+. Now you can play music for up to 24hours on one charge.

The original Pro received great reviews – not the least of which was how Plantronics more of a unified communication, office oriented, handset and headset supplier – could come up with an active noise cancelling, Bluetooth headphone that was essentially a Bose/Beats beater. The Pro was compared to the Parrot Zik for features and sound quality and that is saying something.

The Pro+ has not changed the design cred – it is good looking with a slightly formal office twist and that is where Plantronics expects most to sell. It also comes with a Bluetooth USB dongle as many desktop PCs don’t have Bluetooth – this simply plugs in and drivers will download from the internet.

Sound quality has been improved – not that it needed to be – and offers a full 20Hz to 20KHz range and total harmonic distortion is below 1%.

Its active noise cancelling (ANC) technology is courtesy of dual microphones and it can also be used as an open mic for conversations – think of ordering a drink on a plane. It also acts as a hands free device for a smartphone.

It has Class 1, Bluetooth 4.0 A2DP for audio streaming, AVRCP for music controls, Hands-free v1.6 for wideband, and Headset v1.2. Its range is now up to 100m and it can be paired with two simultaneously connected Bluetooth devices (2H2S – think being paired to a smartphone and tablet).

Battery life is up to 24 hours of continuous use and it uses micro-USB to charge (cable included - charger not supplied).

Price is A$419 and its available from OfficeWorks.
