People's United taps senior exec as president

Bridgeport regional lender People's United Financial Inc. on Friday named Jeff Tengel as its president.

Tengel arrived at People’s United in 2010 after leading the commercial division at PNC Bank. His previous title at People’s was senior executive vice president of commercial banking.

The bank said Tengel has “dramatically expanded” its commercial division and product offerings, and helped spearhead numerous acquisitions since joining eight years ago.

"As our company continues to grow, we need to make sure our organizational structure properly supports the future trajectory of People's United," CEO Jack Barnes said, whose title previously included president. "Jeff is uniquely qualified to help lead the company through our future expansion."
