Current FB Notes in PDF

The Big 12 continues with a full slate of conference games in week 6 with all 10 teams in action for the second-consecutive week.

The Big 12’s four undefeated teams - Baylor, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and TCU - will all play away from home this week with three true road games and a neutral site with the annual Oklahoma-Texas matchup in Dallas. The four teams have combined to post a 7-0 mark away from their home stadiums.

After the visiting team picked up wins in the first two league games of the season, home teams won all four matchups on campus sites this past Saturday to claim a 4-2 season advantage (Baylor and Texas Tech played at a neutral site). With non-conference games added in, home teams are 21-6 through the first five weeks.

The Big 12 continues to have the most balanced offensive attack in the FBS as the lone conference averaging over 300 (307.05) passing yards and over 200 (200.09) rushing yards.

The Big 12 leads the FBS in total offense (499.61) and passing offense (307.05) and is second in rushing offense (200.09). The Big 12 is the only league averaging over 300 yards through the air and one of just two with over 200 yards on the ground.

The Big 12 has long been known for its playmakers at quarterback and this season is no different. Six signal callers are in the nation’s top 24 in total offense with four in the top eight - 2. Trevone Boykin (TCU), 408.8 ypg; 3. Patrick Mahomes (TTU), 408.8; 6. Baker Mayfield (OU), 380.0; 8. Seth Russell (BU), 363.3; 14. Mason Rudolph (OSU), 323.0 and 24. Skyler Howard (WVU), 297.5. Boykin is the only senior among the group.

The Big 12 not only has four of the top eight individual total offense leaders, but is the only power five conference represented in the top eight.

Three Big 12 teams are ranked in the top 10 of both national polls with two rated in the top three in the AP Poll and in the top four in the coaches’ edition. Four Conference teams are ranked overall and seven received votes in at least one of the polls.

The Big 12 completed non-conference play with a .767 (23-7) win percentage and three wins on the road against power five opponents. Seven teams went undefeated and the Conference posted an +18.27 scoring margin over non-league foes.

Linebacker Eric Striker (Oklahoma) has been named FWAA AutoNation National Defensive Player of the Week.
