Live Score Updates England 133/3  at Stumps Joe Root 30*, Jonny Bairstow 1* Aussies were being carted around the park and after a few hiccups at the start, Ian Bell was at his fluent best, smashing a lot of crisp shots on all sides of the wicket and was scoring at a run-a-ball. He got to his fifty and Joe Root was getting his eye in. It was a great bit of intelligence to outsmart Bell, who was stepping down the wicket. He had to play a defensive stroke and the ball bobbed up in the air and ended up being a simple catch for Warner. Jonny Bairstow got off the mark but that was the last bit of action from the day’s play. Rain interrupts play again. I Bell c Warner b Lyon 53 (56)

Live Score Updates England 78/2 Ian Bell 30*, Joe Root 0* ngland lose their second and it is a dismissal unlike any that has been witnessed in recent times. Nathan Lyon delivers it slightly short and Cook pulls the ball on the on side. Adam Voges, standing at forward short-leg ducks for cover and the ball sticks on his right bicep just as he takes evasive action. Pity for Cook as the English skipper and Bell were just getting in a punishing mode. A Cook c Voges b Lyon 34 (48)

Live Score Updates England 48/1 Alastair Cook 24*, Ian Bell 10* England have consolidated somewhat but there have been edges that have flown in all directions on three occasions. Cook looks settled while Bell is still a little scratchy. Johnson is into the attack.

Live Score Updates England 29/1 Alastair Cook 17*, Ian Bell 2* England have lost their first wicket and it was rather cheap wicket. Adam Lyth reached out to a ball that was full outside the off-stump and was going for a big heave outside off. The ball took a big nick and was through to Adam Voges at first slip, who nearly spills it before grabbing onto it while he was on the floor.  Alastair Cook meanwhile, has played a couple of superb shots off the front and back foot. Ian Bell has come at No 3. A Lyth c Voges b Hazlewood 10 (30)

Live Score Updates England 7/0 England have started things off through their southpaws and have the chance to put the Aussies on the mat  by the end of the day’s play. Just as I say that, the clouds open up and we have the fourth stoppage of the day’s play. Mitchell Starc and Johnson asked some questions outside the off-stump, suggesting that Australia can make inroads.

Live Score Updates Australia 136 Josh Hazlewood 14* James Anderson scalps six! Nathan Lyon is the last man to go and he chops the ball onto the stumps. The tailenders looked far more at ease than any of the top order batsmen. Lyon and Hazlewood decided to go after the bowling and were getting runs at a brisk pace. After a embarrassing wicketless outing at Lord’s, Anderson comes back in style in a manner that only champion bowlers do. Australia meanwhile, were all at sea after lunch and lost as many as seven wickets in the session. N Lyon b Anderson 11(11)

Live Score Updates Australia 120/9 Josh Hazlewood 9*, Nathan Lyon 0* There goes number nine and Australia need Ashton Agar to rescue them now. Back of a length and enticing the left-handed Starc to prod outside the off-stump, the Aussies continue to lose cheap wickets. Starc could not withdraw his bat soon enough and ended up nicking to Buttler. M Starc c Buttler b Broad 11

Live Score Updates Australia 115/8  Mitchell Starc 11* Josh Hazlewood 4* That is the end of Chris Rogers’ gritty stay at the crease and Australia are eight down.  Earlier, Jimmy Anderson got his fifth wicket by getting Mitchell Johnson to go for a drive and it ended up being a safe catch for Ben Stokes at fourth slip. Stuart Broad has been hitting the deck hard and has been asking the left-handers some serious questions on the off-stump corridor. Here, the ball pitches on good length and comes a shade back into the batsman. Rogers can’t react quickly and the ball raps him on the pads. The umpire had no hesitation to raise his finger. The Australian opener goes for a review but the replays show that the ball was clipping the top of off-stump. End of a fighting knock by a man who has been in supreme form in his farewell series and has accounted for half of the runs in this essay. Mitchell Johnson c Stokes b Anderson 3; Chris Rogers lbw b Broad 52

Live Score Updates Australia 90/6 Mitchell Johnson 3* Chris Rogers 45* James Anderson has come back into the attack to dismiss three Australian batsmen and leave them reeling at 86 for six. This has been a sensational spell of fast bowling by the English and especially James Anderson who has been out of form coming into the match. Meanwhile, Mitchell Johnson has brought up his 2,000th Test run. Mitchell Marsh c Buttler b Anderson 0 ; Peter Nevill b Anderson 2

Live Score Updates Australia 72/3 Adam Voges 12* Chris Rogers 35* Play resumed after rain break and Adam Voges and Chris Rogers have got the Australian innings moving. They scored some runs at a quick pace, without losing a wicket. At Lunch, Australia managed to be in a good state following a horrific start. The ball wasn’t doing much for England pacers post rain break. (Also Watch: Ashes 2015 – England vs Australia, 3rd Test Day 1 Free Live Streaming here)

Live Score Updates Australia 38/3 Adam Voges 0* Chris Rogers 14* Steven Finn strikes again – this time he manages to dismiss the Australian skipper Michael Clarke. It is somewhat like the way Steven Harmison managed to dismiss Michael Clarke a decade back. England have taken control of the proceedings with Chris Rogers holding up from the other end. Players, meanwhile have left the field following rain interruption. Michael Clarke b Finn 10 (10b)

Live Score Updates Australia 18/2 Michael Clarke 0* Chris Rogers 9* Steven Finn strikes for Australia with a crucial wicket of Steven Smith. Steven Finn who came into the side at the expense of Mark Wood has struck early on in the match to leave Australia reeling at 18 for two. England bowlers have done well to take advantage of the early morning conditions at Edgbaston. Steve Smith c Cook b Finn 7 (18b)

Live Score Updates Australia 9/1 Steven Smith 2* Chris Rogers 5*: England have struck early on Day One after Australia skipper Michael Clarke won the toss and elected to bat. James Anderson trapped David Warner leg before wicket in the very first over of the innings. David Warner lbw b Anderson 2 (6b) (Also Watch: Ashes 2015 – England vs Australia, 3rd Test Day 1 Free Live Streaming here)

Hello and welcome to the Live Cricket Score Updates of Day One of the third Test match of Ashes 2015 – England vs Australia at Birmingham on Wednesday. The match is set to start at 3:30 PM Indian Standard time (IST). The five-match Test series between England and Australia is currently leveled at 1-1. Hosts England won the first Test, while Australia came back strong to win the second Test comprehensively and level the series.

The two teams are coming into the match at the back of a long break between the second and the third Test. They would’ve regrouped and assessed the situation to come up with strategies for the series moving ahead. England have dropped Gary Balance and brought in Jonathan Bairstow, who apart from being an aggressive batsman can also double up as a wicketkeeper.

England’s bowling has looked out of sorts, especially their leader of the pack. James Anderson hasn’t looked threatening and hasn’t caused enough damage. With Stuart Broad too not in the best of form, it will be interesting to see the bowling line-up England assembles for the third Test.

Australia, on the other hand, will be on a high after registering a big win in the second Test. The victory came at the back of a hammering they received in the first match of the series. Mitchell Johnson is on the verge of going past the 300 wicket mark in Test cricket. He would like to achieve the feat here.

England Squad: Alastair Cook, Adam Lyth, Ian Bell, Joe Root, Ben Stokes, Jos Buttler, Moeen Ali, Stuart Broad, Mark Wood, James Anderson, Jonathan Bairstow, Steven Finn, Adil Rashid, Jordan Price

Australia Squad: David Warner, Chris Rogers, Steven Smith, Michael Clarke, Adam Voges, Mitchell Marsh, Brad Haddin, Mitchell Johnson, Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, Nathan Lyon, Shane Watson, Fawad Ahmed, Pat Cummins, Peter Nevill, Shaun Marsh, Peter Siddle
