Beyoncé’s ‘Formation’ Song Boost Red Lobster Sales by 33%

Beyoncé dropped one verse about Red Lobster’s cheddar biscuits and it sent the seafood chain’s sales soaring by 33%. According to the Associated Press, “Red Lobster says it’s sure the mention in the song “Formation” is responsible for at least part of its sales jump in sales compared to a year ago. “It’s clear that Beyoncé has helped create some Red Lobster fans,” Red Lobster’s chief, Kim Lopdrup, said in a statement.

More conventional contributing factors could explain the rise in sales including relatively mild weather and a “Lobsterfest” promotion. Erica Ettori, a Red Lobster representative, said she could not “confirm or deny” whether the chain has reached out to the superstar, but noted that things were “moving fast.”

“The spotlight is a welcome change for Red Lobster which was experiencing a long wave of declining sales when it was sold by Darden Restaurants in 2014. Currently, the chain  is now privately held by the investment firm Golden Gate Capital. AP also reported that the Beyoncé song made Red Lobster a trending topic on Twitter for the first time.”
