Last Updated 24 November 2015, 19:23 IST
Buoyed by the $16.6-billion French rival Alcatel-Lucent acquisition, Finnish telecom gear maker Nokia Networks is all set for its next journey of programmable world backed by the spurt in mobile internet penetration.

Interacting with the media here on Tuesday as part of the Innovation Day organised by the Bangalore Technology Centre, Nokia Networks India Region Head of Technology (CTO) Amit Marwah said technology can make a difference in the life of human beings.

“Internet is a tool in this journey. It gives flexibility to use it where we want, how we want, and what we want. An interesting aspect of this journey will be the 50 billion devices connected globally. These devices will lead to a programmable world where everything can be connected and programmed as per our requirement,” he said.

Marwah said the company has set out a technology vision 2020, which defines the innovation themes of the company. “We want to make sure our mobile networks can deliver one GB of personalised data per user per day profitably. Besides supporting up to 1,000 times more capacity, reducing latency to milliseconds, and  working on self-aware technology networks, Nokia Networks also wants to flatten total energy consumption, reinvent telcos for the cloud, and personalise network experience.”

Nokia Networks, which employs 57,000 employees worldwide, has 15,000 employees at its seven centres spread across India. The Bengaluru Technology Centre, which started its operations as part of its 20 R&D centre worldwide, employs 4,000 technology leaders who focus on mobile broadband development, innovation and quality, delivering cutting edge technology.

“Our centre also develops future technologies including 5G, IP, and software-defined networking; cloud and analytics; along with other research and development centres,” said Bengaluru Technology Centre head Rupa Santhosh.

As part of the Innovation Day, the centre exhibited 40 demos and paper presentations, focused on three key themes of Telco Cloud, IoT and Analytics, and 1,000x capacity.
