This weekend Apex Theatre Studio will present three performances of the  Broadway contemporary classic “A Chorus Line,” which profiles the unsung heroes of the American musical theater - the supporting ensemble.

Performances will take place at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday at Ponte Vedra Concert Hall, 1050 State Road A1A North. Tickets are $25 for reserved seating. They are available for purchase at the Ponte Vedra Concert Hall and St. Augustine Amphitheatre box offices, ticketmaster.com and by phone at (800) 745-3000.

“A Chorus Line” marks the fifth anniversary of Apex Theatre Studio producing exciting and entertaining summer productions featuring highly skilled young artists from the Northeast Florida area and beyond.

"This piece celebrates the cornerstone of what makes our young artists tick: passion, discipline and focus," said David Loudermilk, artistic director for the production.

Preparations for “A Chorus Line” began in January when Broadway veteran Jeffrey Schecter (who played Mike in the last Broadway revival of the show in New York) came to the Ponte Vedra Concert Hall for a series of workshops which featured the opening choreography from the show.

"I was impressed with the level of talent and commitment amongst the Apex students," said Schecter.

In addition to a group of talented young performers from the area, this production will feature the inaugural class of the Visiting Young Artists program.

In March, the artistic team for the show attended the summer professional theater auditions in Mobile, Alabama. From a pool of over 800 actors, the Apex staff interviewed 24 finalists and offered spots to 12 aspiring theater students, many from the top 10 programs in country.

"We have young artists from 10 different states that are coming to share their time and talents with our students. It will expand our students’ ability to interact in a national network of theater performers," said Mairs.

For young artists between the ages of 8 to 14, Apex Theatre Studio is the only training program in Northeast Florida which provides a challenging and enriching training program specifically for the intermediate to advanced level theater student through interactions with an expert faculty, a range of programming and a commitment to excellence.
