Earnings Increase Expected for United Continental Holdings Inc

Wall Street is optimistic about United Continental Holdings Inc, which is slated to report its second quarter results on Thursday, July 23, 2015. Analysts project a profit of $3.29 a share, a rise from $2.34 per share a year ago.

Over the past three months, the consensus estimate has sagged from $3.73. For the fiscal year, analysts are projecting earnings of $10.76 per share. A year after being $10.33 billion, analysts expect revenue to fall 4% year-over-year to $9.94 billion for the quarter. For the year, revenue is projected to roll in at $38.28 billion.

Revenue has declined in the past two quarters. In the first quarter, revenue was $8.61 billion, 17% lower than the year-ago figure. In the quarter before that, revenue fell less than a percent.

The majority of analysts (77%) rate United Continental Holdings as a buy. This compares favorably to the analyst ratings of eight similar companies, which average 71% buys.
