Brits are set for sunshine and showers this weekend with temperatures hitting a balmy 25C on Saturday.

It may not be the sizzling heat of last weekend but the mercury is closer to a typical summer with temperatures in the low to mid 20Cs for much of the country over the coming days.

And after the heavy showers and flash flooding during the week there will be some rainfall especially for the north but it will not generally be as intense.

Then looking into next week and maps from WXCharts show that the temperatures will continue in the same region with the possibility of it moving up to 27C or 28C by August 26 or 27.

“Compared to last weekend, this weekend is looking cooler, more breezy and there will be some showers around with,” Met Office forecaster Aidan McGivern said.

“A fresh start but a fine start towards the south east, in the north west, low pressure, weather fronts, tightly packed isobars so wind and rain first thing Saturday.

"Certainly across western and central Scotland, Northern Ireland it is an unsettled start to the day. That rain, though, soon pushes into the northern isles, into eastern Scotland, southern Scotland, sweeps through the central belt, clears Northern Ireland.

"Then by the end of the afternoon, quite soon we are into clearer conditions across Scotland and Northern Ireland a mixture of sunny spells but also a few more showers in the far north west.

"The rain at this stage is pushing into Cumbria, Northumberland where actually there will be some heavy bursts, the odd rumble of thunder as well and some gusty winds.

"Further south the cloud will build after a bright start and even across southern and central parts there will be the odd shower but away from those showers sunny spells, a keen breeze making it feel cool but still the potential for mid to low 20Cs in the south.”
