Magic Johnson declares Los Angeles the ‘king of basketball’

He may not be in charge anymore, but Magic Johnson is excited for basketball in Los Angeles

The former Lakers president took to Twitter on Saturday to declare Los Angeles the new “king of basketball,” after news broke that Kawhi Leonard and Paul George would be joining the Clippers as well as Anthony Davis and DeMarcus Cousins coming aboard with the Lakers.

ESPN later reported Saturday that Rajon Rondo, who played with Cousins and Davis in New Orleans, agreed to a two-year deal with the Lakers as well.

“LA has just become the king of basketball with the Lakers adding AD, Cousins, Danny Green, JaVale McGee, and KCP (Kentavious Caldwell-Pope),” Johnson wrote, “and Kawhi Leonard and Paul George joining the Clippers. It’s going to be awesome to watch NBA basketball in LA this season!”

Johnson, despite resigning as president in April, has consistently commented on the Lakers’ subsequent transactions.

With the upgraded teams in South California, Johnson’s nickname isn’t far off considering the Mecca of Basketball – New York – has only had one of its teams pull off major offseason splashes.
