Former ASU basketball player Jermaine Marshall dies in France

Former Arizona State basketball player Jermaine Marshall has died in France, where he was a professional player.

Marshall's death at 28 was announced Friday by his French B League team Nantes. Further details are not yet available. Marshall also played professionally in Italy, Greece, Netherlands and Finland.

Marshall played just one season at ASU as a grad transfer from Penn State. He was a starting guard along with Jahii Carson in 2013-14, averaging 15.3 points on a 21-12 team that reached the NCAA Tournament.

Against Arizona, Marshall scored 29 points in a thrilling 69-66 double overtime win at Wells Fargo Arena, handing the Wildcats just their second loss of the season.

Marshall, who grew up in Pennsylvania, played three seasons for Penn State, scoring 880 career points for the Nittany Lions. 

Marshall averaged 15.3 points as a junior at Penn State, earning All-Big Ten honorable mention.
