Volkswagen Routan Production Resuming Next Year
The Volkswagen Routan, which is built by Chrysler, will have its production restarted in 2013 despite earlier reports that the minivan is being axed.
Reports circulated last week suggesting the Routan might be discontinued, something a Volkswagen representative denied in an email to AutoGuide. This past Friday, executives from both automakers spoke on the Routan’s future and Volkswagen spokesman Scott Vazin told Automotive News that the German automaker plans “to offer the 2013 model year Routan.”

Sales on the Routan have been weak and recently both Chrysler and Volkswagen have been going head-to-head over differing beliefs with auto pricing in Europe. According to Chrysler’s production figures, 8,862 Routans were built from January 1st to December 15th this year, which represents a decrease of 38 percent compared to the same period in 2011. In total, 9,923 Routans have been sold in America up to the end of November, a 17 percent drop compared to last year.
