MLB threatens to fine Yasiel Puig if he continues to wear his awesome Vin Scully cleats

The NFL must’ve had a long talk with MLB officials because its draconian uniform policies are now ruining cool things in baseball.

Last week, Yasiel Puig unveiled a phenomenal pair of Vin Scully cleats to pay tribute to the legendary Dodgers broadcaster in his final season with the club. The cleats had an image of Scully’s face and featured the text, “Win for Vin.”

It was a great on-field gesture to honor Scully, but MLB — despite the heart-eyed-emoji endorsement from its Twitter account — evidently didn’t see it that way.

According to Bill Plunkett of the Orange County Register, Puig was notified Tuesday that he would be fined if he wore the cleats again.

MLB’s official uniform policy doesn’t state any restrictions on amazing, cool-looking tributes to legendary broadcasters. But it does limit the colors that players can wear, and orange isn’t a Dodgers color.
