Call Of Duty: Mobile is the biggest mobile entry in the long-running military shooter franchise ever.

It's being developed by Tencent studio Timi and published by Activision, and will be entirely free-to-play (though we'll see how micro-transactions work--or don't work--when the game comes out).

Today, Activision announced that the mobile shooter will launch globally on October 1st wherever the App Store and Google Play are, with the exception of Mainland China (the home country of Tencent, oddly enough), Vietnam and Belgium.

The game will feature traditional Call Of Duty modes like Team Death Match and Domination as well as a Battle Royale mode.

From the press release:

Call of Duty: Mobile will launch with a bevy of Call of Duty Multiplayer modes and Battle Royale, with more modes and content, time-limited events and playlists to be added on a regular basis.

In Multiplayer, players will experience the fluid, first-person combat of Call of Duty, fighting head-to-head in fan-favorite modes such as Team Deathmatch, Search and Destroy and Free-For-All, on iconic maps such as Nuketown, Crash, Hijacked and more. Along the way, players will rank up to earn and unlock classic Call of Duty characters such as John “Soap” MacTavish and Simon “Ghost” Riley from the Modern Warfare series, as well as Alex Mason from the Black Ops series. Weapons, scorestreaks and additional gear for equipping and customizing loadouts are also at players’ fingertips for the ultimate Call of Duty experience.

Battle Royale mode is a unique take on the genre from within the Call of Duty universe, specifically built and tailored for Call of Duty: Mobile. Up to 100 combatants will fight for survival in a map designed exclusively for the mobile title featuring locations from across the Call of Duty franchise in solos, duos or four-person teams. Players can battle across land, sea and air with vehicles including an ATV, helicopter, and tactial raft, while finding and equipping gear and weapons that span the series.

So long as the revenue model isn't atrocious, this is sounding pretty great. I'm not huge on mobile games, but this is one I'll definitely take for a spin. It might be the kind of game worth playing with a controller, since shooters are just so unwieldy on touchscreens.

Here's the new trailer:

Lots of familiar-looking locations, as you can see. I have a feeling this is going to be a pretty big hit. It should also whet gamers' appetites for Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare's October 25th release. Speaking of which, the second and final beta for that game kicks off tomorrow. Read all about that, including start and end times, right here.
