Cunningham Park Farmers Market Opens For 2018 Season

Celebrates its second year in Fresh Meadows

On Sunday, May 6th, the Cunningham Park Farmers Market (Queens) will open for its 2nd season. The market will be held in the park parking lot off Union Turnpike every Sunday from 9am to 2pm through November 18th. The farmers market will continue to highlight New York area growers and artisan food makers, with the mission of bringing wholesome and delicious foods to the neighborhood’s shoppers and supporting local small farms and food businesses.

The Cunningham Park Farmers Market is a grower-producer market, meaning that vendors must be farmers or make food with ingredients purchased from local farms. The few exceptions to this rule are olive oil, chocolate and coffee vendors who are able to document their sourcing. This season, shoppers can look forward to a wide variety of fruits, vegetables and meats from area farms, including organically grown produce and pasture-raised poultry and eggs from Abundance Acres Farm in Fort Plain, NY. In June Alex’s Tomato Farm of Sprakers, NY will return with orchard fruits, honey and a wide variety of vegetables. Off the Wheat Sweets and Eats, an artisan gluten-free baker from Cornwall on Hudson, NY will be back as will Horman’s Pickles of Glen Cove, Long Island. The full schedule of shopper favorites and new vendors attending this year is available at www.downtoearthmarkets.com.

Shoppers will find ample free parking in the lot where the farmers market is located. EBT and WIC Checks are welcome and Health Bucks are available. Cunningham Park shoppers can stay up to date on market events and more by signing up for the email newsletter via the Down to Earth Markets website or by following the Cunningham Park Farmers Market on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/cunninghamparkfarmersmarket/). Down to Earth Markets also operates the Jamaica and Queens Botanical Garden farmers markets in Queens, NY. A full list of the farmers markets that they manage can be found at www.downtoearthmarkets.com.
