Just 12 days after re-signing longtime lefty CC Sabathia, the New York Yankees are adding a new southpaw to the rotation.
The Yanks reportedly traded for James Paxton on Monday night, according to Jeff Passan.
Paxton went 11-6 with a 3.76 ERA in 28 starts for the Mariners in 2018. In the last two seasons, he's combined to go 23-11 with a 3.40 ERA in 52 starts. During that two-year stretch, he struck out 326 batters in 296.1 innings pitched.
In four career starts against the Boston Red Sox, Paxton has a 2-0 record and a 2.49 ERA. He's never pitched in Fenway Park and has just one appearance in Yankee Stadium. The 29-year-old made $4.9M in 2018, his sixth MLB season.
Greg Johns confirmed that the Yankees and Mariners were finalizing a deal, which included right-handed pitcher Justus Sheffield -- who was projected to see his first start in pinstripes in 2019 -- and two other Yankee prospects.
