Another Northern New York community is putting a halt to bitcoin mining-- at least for now.

Rouses Point said it has gotten dozens of requests from cryptocurrency miners because of its affordable electric rates. The village says it's concerned because if it exceeds the amount of hydropower it's allotted, energy costs go up for everyone. And cryptocurrency mining uses a lot of power to perform complex functions on computer servers.

So, the village says it will not allow so-called server farms until they're proven to benefit residents.

Recently, another North Country community-- Plattsburgh-- became the first city in the country to put a moratorium on new cryptocurrency mining, citing similar concerns.
