2K Games, who now hold the World Wrestling Entertainment game license, is coming out with WWE 2K15 on both current and last generation consoles fairly soon. Coming built-in will be a newly announced mode that looks to combine wrestling story lines with replayability that many fans feel has been missing in wrestling games as of late. This announcement comes after a string of similar ones that moved the release date and revealed collectors editions with included characters and other extras to bring players a “next-gen” feel.

WWE 2K15 is bringing back a career mode that looks to put players between the ropes and have them move along with the pace of action. Called MyCareer, it is being hailed as “the first comprehensive, career-driven mode” in any wrestling game to date. The journey of a player will start with a created wrestler of their choice going through the official Performance Center of the WWE and moving through NXT before eventually landing on Monday Night Raw and other shows.

In a press release, 2K revealed that there will be a wide swath of factors that determine the story’s direction and unlockables for use in the rest of the game. Pieces such as the character’s win/loss record, progress through development, extra “ultimatums” achieved, alliances and rivalries will affect both crowd reaction and the story presented. Among the unlockable characters will be NXT stars Rusev, Bo Dallas and Adrian Neville as well as managers that will also shift the storyline compared to subsequent play-throughs.

The president of Visual Concepts (one of the production teams under the 2K banner working on this title), Greg Thomas, compares this mode to a similar one in the NBA line of games that the company also works on. “MyCareer mode is…a perfect fit for WWE 2K15,” he says, going on to say that he and the team are eager to see how the inclusion of this treasured mode advances the series. MyCareer replaces the last iteration’s Attitude Era storyline that brought players through key matches and moments of wrestling during the late 90s.

This new career mode will come later for current generation players than for those sill primarily using Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 platforms. Next generation consumers will have to wait about three more weeks to grab a copy as 2K and Yukes, another subsidiary under 2K Games, announced two weeks ago the delay of the Playstation 4 and Xbox One versions. Thomas said then that the current generation versions simply did not yet fully meet their expectations and that the extra time would allow them to achieve a “next-gen experience.” The Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 versions come out Oct. 28 in the U.S. and Oct. 31 in Europe while the Xbox One and Playstation 4 iterations have slipped to Nov. 18 and Nov. 21, respectively.

The WWE 2K15 special editions are also aimed at making players feel as though they are inside the ring with their favorite wrestlers. So much so, in fact, that the “Hulkamania” Edition has a piece of the ring Hogan himself occupied back in March of 2014 laid within a plaque. Other parts of this edition include an autographed art card of Hulk Hogan, Sting and Hulk Hogan downloadable character packs and a Hollywood Hulk Hogan doll. This is a limited edition of WWE 2K15, and only available with either the Xbox One or Playstation 4 versions of the game.
