Critic's Corner Wednesday: Shelley Long on 'Modern Family'

•We've known for years that reality producers had run out of new concepts, but are we really to believe they've now run out of able, willing participants? Apparently, as Survivor (CBS, tonight, 8 ET/PT) begins its latest go-round with the return of Russell and Boston Rob — Russell for the third time, Boston Rob for the fourth. What's the plan? To keep bringing them back until one of them finally wins, or until one finally gets a non-Survivor-fueled life?

•It's possible the arrival of CBS' dismal, dreadful Criminal Mindsspinoff has some viewers curious as to what's happening on the equally dreadful original. If so, the Criminal Minds (9 ET/PT) investigators are headed to Upstate New York to tackle another string of mysterious disappearances.

•It almost goes without saying that, even sight unseen, you'd be better off over at Modern Family (ABC, 9 ET/PT) — because, well, when wouldn't you be? Shelley Long returns as Mitchell and Claire's mother, who arrives at Lily's birthday party with Claire's ex-boyfriend (Matt Dillon) in tow.

But the bigger problem isn't who's coming to the party; it's who's not invited: Cam's clown alter-ego, Fizbo. What do you want to bet he shows up, anyway?
