ELLICOTT CITY, Md., May 4 (UPI) -- A woman was killed and another critically wounded by gunfire in the office of a Maryland church, police said.
A man with what appears to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound was found dead in woods near St. Peter's Episcopal Church in a quiet neighborhood in Ellicott City, a suburban community south of Baltimore, Howard County police said.
Police said they were investigating the man's possible involvement in the shooting of the two women. A gun was found near the man's body, investigators said.
A custodian at the church on Rogers Avenue called 911 about 5:20 p.m. Thursday to report he had discovered the two women and said it appeared they had been shot, police said in a news release.
One of the women was pronounced dead at the scene. The other was taken to the Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore and was in critical condition.
