Man hangs self, daughter-in-law, grandson held


Chandigarh, October 30

A daughter-in-law and a grandson of a 74-year-old man have been arrested after he allegedly committed suicide by hanging at his house in Sector 22. The victim left a suicide note blaming his kin for the extreme step.

The police said the victim, identified as Desraj, had ended his life on Thursday. On finding him hanging, the victim’s son, Mahinder Singh, rushed him to the Civil Hospital, Sector 22, where doctors declared him brought dead.

The police were informed about the incident following which they initiated an investigation. A police official said a suicide note was found in the victim’s clothes in which he had blamed his kin of harassing her. The victim’s daughter, Prem Lata, who resides in Delhi, also reached the city and submitted a complaint with the police, alleging that her father was harassed by her sister-in-law Seema and her 22-year-old son Rishi.

Acting on the complaint, a case under Section 306 (abetment of suicide) of the IPC was registered at the Sector 17 police station.

Both Seema and Rishi were arrested. While Seema was sent to judicial custody, her son will

be produced before a court on Saturday.

The deceased’s samples were taken for the Covid test. The autopsy will be conducted after receiving a negative Covid report.
