Foreclosure Filings Increase In Avon, Avon Lake: Report

AVON, OH — Both Avon and Avon Lake saw an increase in foreclosures over the past year. Nationally, foreclosures were down, but in Ohio the foreclosure filings continued to increase.

Foreclosure activity in Avon for Jan. 2018 saw a 100 percent increase. In Avon Lake, the increase was 250 percent. The two cities saw increases of 100 percent (Avon) and 133 percent (Avon Lake) in Dec. 2017, according to ATTOM data.

According to ATTOM data, there were six foreclosure filings in Avon in January 2018 and seven in Avon Lake. Based on census bureau estimates, there are 8,045 housing units in Avon and 9,575 housing units in Avon Lake.

This means that one in every 1,341 properties in Avon has a foreclosure filing. One in 1,368 homes in Avon Lake have a foreclosure filing.

Those statistics rank in about the middle of the pack for Ohio cities, in terms of foreclosure rates. In the Buckeye State, that's particularly high, compared to the rest of the nation.

According to ATTOM, Ohio, as a state, had the fifth highest foreclosure rate in the nation. In January 2018, there were 4,228 foreclosure filings in the state or one in every 1,217 properties had a foreclosure filing.

The states with the most foreclosure activity in January were New Jersey (up 8 percent); Ohio (up 6 percent); Indiana (up 20 percent); Arizona (up 1 percent) and DC (up 49 percent).
