RIVERSIDE (CNS) – Sheriff’s deputies shot and killed a large dog that attacked a police dog being used to respond to a report of a fight at a home in Jurupa Valley, department officials said.

Deputies responded at 3:36 p.m. Friday, to a call of a fight involving about 10 people, some of them armed, in the 10000 block of 50th Street.

As deputies with a canine unit approached the residence, a large, loose dog attacked the police dog and bit it several times, sheriff’s officials said. Deputies tried repeatedly to get the other dog loose, but were unable to make the dog release its bite on the police dog, police said.

At that point, a deputy fired one shot and killed the attacking animal.

No other injuries were reported.
