Drivers heading west on Interstate 94 near Alexandria will encounter a detour Tuesday, July 17, starting at 9 p.m.

The westbound lane will be closed and traffic will be detoured to Highway 27 and Highway 114, as crews complete overnight work and maintenance, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.

The work is occurring during overnight hours to minimize traffic impacts, and is expected to be completed by 3 a.m., weather permitting.

Currently this section of I-94 has head-to-head traffic, and is part of an overall project that includes replacing the bridges over Lake Latoka. Visit the project website at mndot.gov/d4/projects/94latoka/ for more information.

The work scheduled for Tuesday night will include hauling and setting beams for the westbound bridge replacement. Maintenance crews will be conducting repairs at the same time to help improve the safety of the existing eastbound bridge before it is replaced in the 2019 construction season.
